About The Role
Are you ready to make a significant impact on the future of the energy landscape? We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our team. In this crucial role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the financial health of our projects. You'll work closely with diverse teams and contribute to the success of our mission to provide reliable and sustainable energy solutions to communities across the nation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support period/monthly close and reporting process, perform variance analysis of monthly actuals vs as-sold vs latest forecast for Revenue, COGS, EBITDA, prepare margin waterfall analysis for key projects.
- Oversee and take lead of financial activity and ensure that such information is consistent and reconciled on a regular basis including but not limited to SAGE 300 (Timberline) and HCSS (Heavy Construction Software System). Provide guidance on invoice requirements, including preparation, format, and distribution; also, track outstanding billed and unbilled receivables related to project and work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues in a timely manner. Coordinate with core Operation team with the preparation of monthly Project Status Reports (PSR’s - If applicable).
- Manage the controlling and financial reporting of projects in accordance with internal control rules. Coordinate with the Operation team to ensure consistent accounting (margin and revenue milestone recognition) and reporting across the project. Evaluate project planning and suggest corrective action to enhance profitability and ensure revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP ASC 606.
- Respond to all financial inquiries in an accurate and timely manner; compile information for internal and external auditors, as required. Act as a liaison between operations and finance teams. Analyzing the project data to identify incorrect coding, excessive or incorrect time and expense, and facilitate corrections on a timely basis. Coordinate the close out of project accounts during and upon project completion.
- Providing training to Operation team members in the following area, but not limited: (Billing Process, PO/PR Requirement, Project Close-out requirements, Change Order, Contract Set-up, Project).
- Perform other required duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of the overall project execution process, including budgeting, cost reporting, cost control, schedule, and anticipated cost and project profitability and demonstrated proficiency in technical applications such as Microsoft Office, SAGE 300 - experience preferred, and reporting systems. Display initiative in recommending solutions that will maintain or enhance the project’s financial position.
- Understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, work-in-progress, billings-in-excess, costs-in-excess, cost accounting/job costing and contract billing. Experience with all contract vehicle types (i.e. FFP, T&M and Cost +), “outside the box” thinker who identifies problems and develops creative solutions.
- Ability to consistently assess, isolate and prioritize critical issues while being able to interpret and convey variances within the business operations. Must be detail-oriented, flexible, and able to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must display initiative and as well as work as part of a team and independently as required.
- Ability to get information clearly and consistently across in a timely and effective manner both verbally and in writing via multiple methods (i.e., presentations to groups both large and small). Demonstrates the ability to influence people and get them to take appropriate action.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; ability to work with others at all levels of management; flexibility; ability to prioritize multi-task; self-motivation; ability to recognize the need for confidentiality; higher-level business decision making.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or equivalent required.
- 5+ years in Project Accounting working on lump sum projects, preferably in Construction.
Key Nice-To-Haves
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
- Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience in the utility or energy sector.
- Familiarity with project management software.
