The mission of the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) is to serve Maryland’s hospitals and health systems through collective action to shape policies, practices, financing, and performance to advance health care and the health of all Marylanders. MHA advocates for members and their constituents – caregivers, patients, and communities – before state legislative and regulatory bodies. Job Summary
The Association is seeking a Vice President, Strategic Analytics to join our team in Elkridge, MD. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President, Strategic Analytics will serve in a pivotal role to execute on MHA’s internal and external demands through strategic analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the strategic analytics team to support advocacy and strategic initiatives of the Association with timely, easily understood, and actionable information, data, and visualizations.
- Lead and manage the development, maintenance, and growth of MHA’s data assets and analytical modeling capabilities to analyze data, trends, and impacts of the AHEAD and Total Cost of Care models on statewide and hospital-specific financial, quality, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with MHA senior leadership to develop and frame key analytical questions to optimize the analytical process and ensure informative and actionable outputs.
- Effectively project manage competing deliverables to ensure the priorities and strategic objectives of the Association are being met.
- Develop hospital-specific subscription data and analytics offerings that provide value to members and derive additional non-dues revenue for the Association.
- Expertly facilitate internal, member and multi-stakeholder groups to identify and meet the analytical needs of the Association and our members.
- Manage internal and external partners and consultants to support the analytical needs of MHA and its members by clearly identifying objectives, driving timelines, and actively shaping the outcomes of engagements.
- Manage hospital and healthcare data collection, analytics, and research activities.
- Establish and retain excellent relationships with MHA Board members leadership, regulators (HSCRC, MHCC), CRISP, and other key stakeholders as needed.
- Prepare reports, letters, policy positions, recommendations, and action plans in support of the Association, its advocacy and members' needs.
- Develop and maintain a production schedule of analytical products and tools for internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively identify, monitor, and evaluate local, regional, and national trends affecting hospitals and health systems and incorporate into analysis and/or deliverables as appropriate.
- Maintain a deep working knowledge of Total Cost of Care model, AHEAD model, and Maryland’s unique payment system.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in data analytics, health care policy, health care administration, business administration or related field required. Master’s or work equivalent preferred.
- Ten or more years of experience in health care analytics, health care operations, data analysis or related fields.
- Expertise knowledge of health care and hospital data and strategic analytics with a working knowledge of the Maryland Model, Maryland’s unique payment system and hospital operations and finances is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in managing a data analytics team, consultants, and internal customers to reach the desired outcomes.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge and exposure to a suite of analytical and statistical tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, SAS, Azure, etc. with advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Knowledge of evolving health care policy and data trends.
- Demonstrated exceptional business acumen in identifying and facilitating growth opportunities.
