Language Access Assistant (part time)

SALARY RANGE: $28.80 an hour - No Benefits
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
MIMA’s MISSION:
The mission of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs is to promote community wellbeing, economic development, and the integration of immigrant communities. The Language Access project seeks to achieve equitable access by creating effective policies, procedures and a major culture shift to serve immigrants and refugees with limited English skills.
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position will help build capacity to serve Limited English Proficient (LEP) residents. More specifically, this position will provide administrative support to MIMA’s Language Access Project. This position will work in collaboration with the Language Access Project Manager to manage the city’s central language access service accounts, process and service requests, and manage finances. In addition, this position will provide support to MIMA’s director to advance the mission of the office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Track and process requests by city agencies for language access services, including translation of documents, telephonic interpretation, and on-site interpretation requests.
- Monitors financial details to ensure legal compliance.
- Maintains an accurate filing and record keeping system for all financial statements and company documents.
- Create strategic plans based on the analysis of the Language Access funding status and financial forecasts.
- Track and process payments for language access services.
- Create reports on usage of language access services and expenditures.
- Coordinate training particular to frontline staff who encounter LEP individuals.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of professional experience.
- Knowledge of the unique needs of and/or experience working with immigrant communities and LEP population.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to work without supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Local government and city agency experience.
- Experience working with Language Access issues and LEP population.
- Bilingual candidates.
