Job Description
We're hiring a Senior Technician Specialist to join our Specialty Catalyst R&D team. You will report to the R&D Manager of Polypropylene Catalyst Design located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD. This position requires working onsite Monday - Friday in our laboratories.
The position offers candidates an opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic team of catalyst specialists supporting projects and operations within the polypropylene catalyst business. As a Senior Technician Specialist, you will work directly with a PhD chemist/engineer on innovation projects, new product development, scale-up activities, productivity projects, and manufacturing troubleshooting. Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment, the catalyst team synthesizes catalyst prototypes, characterizes catalysts, and performs tests on catalyst systems.
Responsibilities
- Foster a safety-centric culture, fully engaging in all aspects of corporate and work group specific safety initiatives.
- Synthesize lab-scale polyolefin catalyst samples and other necessary catalyst components.
- Analyze materials and chemicals with characterization tests.
- Perform polymer characterization on the materials generated in the polymerization evaluations.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot problems with the catalyst reactors, gloveboxes, analytical equipment, and other laboratory equipment.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot problems with the polymerization reactors, purification systems, and downstream analysis equipment.
- Compile, document and manage data from experiments, generating concise and accurate data packages for the projects.
- Compose laboratory documents such as SOPs.
- Demonstrate a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Perform laboratory housekeeping and procurement duties.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related science field.
- Proficiency in office-based computer software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong organization and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of industrial experience in a chemical laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Background in air-sensitive chemical manipulations.
- Experience with reactive materials or organometallics.
- Experience with analytical equipment to include use, maintenance, and troubleshooting such as GC, NMR, SEM, particle size measurements.
