Mutual of Omaha has an immediate full-time opening for a highly skilled and experienced Director of Statutory Accounting Policy Accountant to support the continued growth and complexity of the company. This position will actively participate in an environment that embraces change and innovation, learning, and interactive feedback while adhering to finance policies, procedures and internal controls.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:
- Estimated Salary: $140,000-$170,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
- 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
- Regular associates working 40 hours a week can earn up to 15 days of vacation each year.
- Regular associates receive 11 paid holidays in 2024, which includes 2 floating holidays that are added to your prorated personal time to be used at your discretion.
- Regular associates are provided sick leave through the use of personal time. Associates working 40 hours a week can receive up to 40 hours of personal time in 2024, which is prorated based on the start date. Additionally, you will receive two floating holidays in 2024 by way of personal time that may be used at your discretion.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Conduct Accounting Research: Research, interpret, and effectively communicate statutory accounting principles.
- Lead Accounting Guidance Policy: Continually monitor and assess changing or new statutory accounting guidance to determine the potential impacts on our policies and business.
- Provide Business Insights: Responsible for evaluating new transactions and products to determine and document accurate and timely conclusions of the appropriate treatment under statutory accounting principles.
- Review Financial Statements: Assist in the review of statutory financial statements and disclosures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to statutory accounting principles and policies.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Expertise in Statutory Accounting Principles: You’ll have an expert understanding of statutory accounting principles, with experience in applying the knowledge.
- Accounting Policy Research Skills: With relevant experience, you’ll bring skills in accounting policy research, analysis, and documentation.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities in verbal, non-verbal and in written forms. Clearly articulating complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
- You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
- Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
PREFERRED:
- Life and health insurance industry experience.
- 8+ years of technical accounting experience at Big 4 / regional public accounting firm or equivalent experience with an insurance company.
- Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent.
- Experienced position paper writing that is clear, concise, professional and that effectively conveys complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to successfully navigate shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
