BigIron is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team! The Staff Accountant role requires a keen attention to detail, a strong grasp of accounting principles, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our financial records, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to problem-solving, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members across the organization. This is a hybrid role that would require travel to our Columbus or St. Edward office two to three days a week, until training is complete or if there was a business need.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain and update general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Conduct variance analysis and report findings to management.
- Process and verify invoices and payments.
- Manage accounts receivable and ensure timely collection of payments.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and standards.
- Support the Accounting Manager with ad-hoc projects and tasks.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate setting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
