Mutual of Omaha has an immediate full-time opening for a newly created statutory accounting policy lead accountant to support the continued growth and complexity of the company. This position will actively participate in an environment that embraces change and innovation, learning, and interactive feedback while adhering to finance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:
- Estimated Salary: $100,000-$115,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
- Benefits and Perks, 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
- Regular associates working 40 hours a week can earn up to 15 days of vacation each year.
- Regular associates receive 11 paid holidays in 2024, which includes 2 floating holidays that are added to your prorated personal time to be used at your discretion.
- Regular associates are provided sick leave through the use of personal time. Associates working 40 hours a week can receive up to 40 hours of personal time in 2024, which is prorated based on the start date. Additionally, you will receive two floating holidays in 2024 by way of personal time that may be used at your discretion.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Research, interpret, and communicate statutory accounting principles.
- Monitor and assess the impact of new statutory accounting pronouncements on our business and recommend appropriate actions.
- Responsible for evaluating new transactions and products to determine and document the appropriate treatment under statutory accounting principles.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements and disclosures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to statutory accounting policies and principles.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Specialized knowledge and hands-on experience in statutory accounting principles and statutory financial reporting.
- Experience with accounting policy research, analysis, and documentation.
- Strong communication skills verbally, non-verbally, and in written formats, with peers and management.

- Ability to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
PREFERRED:
- Life and health insurance industry experience.
- 5+ years of technical accounting experience at Big 4 / regional public accounting firm or equivalent experience with an insurance company.
- Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent.
- Experienced position paper writing that is clear, concise, and professional and that effectively conveys complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to successfully navigate shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
