This Accounting Technician / Senior Accounting Technician series is used county-wide which makes it a commonly recruited class series. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed for consideration on a flow basis. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that will be utilized to fill current and future vacancies occurring countywide. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:
Accounting Technician: $54,184 - $65,873.60 Annually
Senior Accounting Technician: $59,612 - $72,446.40 Annually
Current Job OpeningsCurrent vacancies exist with the Health and Human Services Agency and the Department of Financial Services.
The ideal candidate must have great customer service skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to handle and manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive collaborative environment. Previous experience in accounting and various computer systems is desired.
The PositionAccounting Technician: Under general supervision, to perform difficult and moderately technical para-professional accounting, finance, and bookkeeping duties required in the maintenance of fiscal and statistical records; to prepare and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, documents, analyses and accounting reports; to review, verify, reconcile, and record financial transactions which require considerable interpretative ability and technical judgement; to perform other related duties as required.
Senior Accounting Technician: Under general supervision, to perform highly technical and complex para-professional and beginning professional level accounting and bookkeeping functions of grants, contracts, purchase orders and other financial records related to the monitoring, reconciliation, verification, analysis, and approval of financial expenditures.

Minimum QualificationsAccounting TechnicianAny combination of experience and education, which provides the required knowledge and skills, is acceptable. A typical way to gaining the knowledge and skills is outlined below:
Four (4) years of experience maintaining and reviewing accounting and financial records, preparing and processing accounting documents, or the maintenance of a fiscal record keeping system; AND completion of two years (60 semester units) of college or technical school training with course work preferably in business, bookkeeping, accounting or financial records. Two (2) years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year for year basis.
Senior Accounting TechnicianAny combination of experience and education, which provides the required knowledge and skills, is acceptable. A typical way to gaining the knowledge and skills is outlined below:
Experience: Two years of experience as an Accounting Technician in Yolo County; or four years of highly responsible accounting or financial support para-professional experience which involved the monitoring, reconciliation, verification, analysis, and approval of financial expenditures.
Education: Some college or technical school level training in business, bookkeeping, accounting or financial records is desirable. College education, which preferably includes some coursework in the listed areas, can be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
License
Some positions in this classification may require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Screening for Best QualifiedThe supplemental questions are designed to elicit specific information regarding a candidate’s experience, education, and training. Responses should be consistent with the information on your application and are subject to verification. If a job included responsibilities applicable to several questions, separate the different functions of the job to answer all the questions completely. Resumes or referral to the application or other questionnaire responses will not be accepted in lieu of completing each question. If you have no experience, write "no experience" for the appropriate question. Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training, and experience will be evaluated to determine those applicants that are best qualified.
Verification of EducationAcceptable forms of educational documentation are transcripts, and/or a copy of your diploma/degree. Official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable and must list the student name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded. Copies of diplomas should indicate your name, the name of the school, a specific field of study and date of graduation.
For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar’s office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

All foreign transcripts or diplomas must be in English. If the institution does not provide these documents in English, the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. The County of Yolo will accept education as equivalent to U.S. accreditation from Institutions that are listed as members of the International Association of Universities. Applicants who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university, must submit one of the following:
1. A written statement from a U.S accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
2. An evaluation of the applicant's degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content, credit and grade.
Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination.
