JOB SUMMARY
The Florida Justice Association (FJA) is a statewide organization dedicated to strengthening and upholding Florida’s civil justice system and protecting the rights of Florida’s citizens and consumers.
The FJA is looking to hire an experienced individual who will provide legal and legislative research, bill tracking, analysis, and logistical support for the Legislative Department.
This individual will also collaborate with contract lobbyists and other departments. This role is not anticipated to be a direct advocacy/lobbying position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legislative Responsibilities:
- Provides support for all legislative issues and has primary responsibility for selected issues affecting FJA membership.
- Monitors and tracks bills and amendments and identifies issues of interest or concern to the Legislative Department.
- Coverage of select legislative committee meetings and legislative session.
- Analyze and prepare memos on legislation.
- Works with internal committee Chairs/Members.
- Research legislation; draft bills, amendments, position papers, and talking points.
- Respond to member requests and questions on legislative issues.
FJA Committee Duties:
- Monitors and participates in administrative rule making.
- Staff Liaison for FJA Legislative Subcommittees.

Location: Tallahassee, FL
Expectations: Full-time, in-person position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Member of the Florida Bar (preferred but not required).
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet research capability, including LobbyTools.
- Knowledge of legislative tracking and drafting of legislation.
- Knowledge of the substantive law relative to tort, insurance, and issues important to the civil plaintiff’s bar.
