Overview:
Responsible for setting the overall strategy of the practice in conjunction with the Global Sector Director and with input from the Practice Leaders, Studio Leaders, Office Directors, and Regional Directors. The role is also responsible for developing and maintaining systems and processes within the global practice to ensure quality and consistency of designs and the integration and leveraging of other HKS resources.
Responsibilities:
- Leads strategic planning for the practice in conjunction with respective Global Sector Director and facilitates communication for the practice with Studio Leaders, Office Directors and Regional Directors, such as vetting sector marketing strategy and allocating needed resources.
- Coordinates the practice’s development of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) in advance of the budgeting process and is responsible for the achievement of those OKRs throughout the year.
- Provides counsel and support to Studio Leaders, Office Directors and Regional Directors related to resource expenditures, personnel matters for the practice.
- When needed, establishes action plan for any corrective measures with studio leaders, Office Directors and Regional Directors.
- Advises on recruiting, staffing, utilization, and growth management across the practice, including recommending adjustments where necessary and reviewing all personnel changes in conjunction with Regional Directors and Office Directors.
- Collaborates on implementation of firmwide initiatives across the practice, including but not limited to being a champion for J.E.D.I., Research, Enterprise strategies, Top Projects.
- Actively supports integration of HKS services, expertise and innovation in all projects, while actively seeking opportunities to incorporate HKS best practices, sustainable design solutions, subject matter expertise and resources strategically and efficiently for the client, users, and community.
- Active on projects as required by relationships but should work to maintain a broader strategic view of the entire practice supporting studio leaders to deliver quality projects on behalf of the practice.
- Acts as a primary interface with clients as needed for specific client relationships, building and strengthening connections through a comprehensive understanding of their mission, goals, policies, needs and progress.
- Supports the practice by distilling and distributing project lessons, practice related knowledge and tools to the studio leaders so they can lead effectively.
- Exercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues.
Qualifications:
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, related degree for respective field, or relevant years in education or experience.
- Licensure or certification in chosen field preferred.
- Typically 20+ years of experience, including experience as an office or studio leader with demonstrated success in both project work and talent/resource development.
- Significant experience in the respective practice area.
- Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
- Familiarity in the capability and benefits of design-related software preferred.
- Familiarity in the functionality of Vision.
- Experience in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams preferred.
- Proficiency in logistics management including connecting people and resources to the right place at the right time.
- Successful track record in directing and providing leadership for design teams from business development presentations through developing strategy and design concepts.
- Successful track record in building, nurturing, and fostering new client relationships.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work closely with directors of the firm to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy, and to facilitate its advancement across the firm.
- Ability to manage team with diplomatic and collaborative leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions.
- Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality.
- Travel will be required.
Base Salary Range: $145K - $175K annually - Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, DC locations only.
