Managing Director, Liquidity Management
Our Opportunity:
Reporting to the Firm’s Corporate Treasurer, this leader and his/her team leads and manages liquidity across all legal entities. The team is responsible for managing the Firm’s liquidity position through various measures as well as through the Funding desk and the Treasury Investments team.
The Managing Director and his/her team drives the development of robust contingency liquidity analyses and plans to help identify emerging risks and for the design of company liquidity management policies, ensuring compliance and escalating to senior management as necessary.
This role is high impact and visibility playing a critical role in maintaining the financial health and stability of the organization.
Key Outcomes:
- Set priorities for the team on regulatory deadlines and driving delivery on business goals; Lead a team of ~20 high-performing colleagues who oversee Governance, Analytics, Liquidity Stress Testing, Intraday Liquidity and Reporting/Technology.
- Drive strategic decision on the optimal allocation of liquid assets.
- Regularly present to senior finance and business leadership in a variety of forums and provide recommendations regarding critical liquidity positioning across multiple entities.
- Engage regularly with auditors and rating agencies and serve as lead representative for liquidity exams.
- Regularly interact with the Firm’s primary prudential regulator, the Fed, as well as with FDIC, FINRA, and SEC.
- Ensure compliance with stress testing metrics including Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR), Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR) and Internal Liquidity Stress Testing (ILST).
- Develop associated tools to assist business partners in analyzing the liquidity impacts of business decisions.
- Responsible for daily reporting to the Federal Reserve on Form FR 2052a and regulatory adherence with requirements.
- Own Contingency Funding Plan, including corresponding playbook actions.
- Oversee intraday liquidity risk across all entities and ensure exposures are adequately managed.
- Lead relationships with Corporate Risk Management on risk limit calibration as well as early warning indicators.
- Identify and manage liquidity risks for new products and activities and remain abreast of evolving regulatory liquidity requirements and their associated costs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, succinctly communicating liquidity issues embedded in their business areas and recommending an appropriate course of action.
- Interact with Technology teams supporting liquidity management tools and any associated reporting requirements.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of financial services experience and 10+ years of liquidity management leadership experience, in an environment of similar scope and complexity, overseeing diverse teams and motivating employees to achieve both tactical and strategic delivery goals.
- Deep expertise with bank capital and regulatory liquidity requirements. Successful history making liquidity management decisions in a stressful and challenging environment.
- Exceptional communicator with the ability to convey the robustness of Schwab’s liquidity program and provide thoughtful and accurate responses to questions and challenges posed by regulators.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience building credibility and confidently conveying information with authority when articulating how liquidity risks are being managed by the Firm.
- Proven adaptability to changing market conditions and making appropriate decisions to ensure appropriate liquidity levels are maintained.
- Experience staying abreast of the evolving regulatory landscape and demonstrating impeccable judgment to prioritize numerous initiatives in flight.
- Proven track record of shaping strategy and leading with influence.
- Successful history of building and cultivating strong authentic relationships with internal/external business partners.
- CFA or other related certification preferred.
- Series 27 or Series 24 preferred.
