Job Title: Assistant General Counsel, Cell Therapy Innovation Law
Position Summary:
Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking an intellectual property attorney to lead BMS’ cell therapy innovation law team. The Assistant General Counsel position will directly and indirectly manage the intellectual property attorneys supporting the cell therapy franchise and sit on the Innovation Law Leadership Team. Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel and leadership on all facets of intellectual property law, including global procurement, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development, as well as legal counsel to the Research & Early Development organization. The attorney will work closely with leadership in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives. Residence in or relocation to Seattle, Washington is preferred.
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
- J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one State bar.
- Minimum of 15 years of patent experience in the biopharmaceutical field, preferably including at least six years working in-house for an innovative biopharmaceutical company, in roles of increasing responsibility.
- Experience in managing patent attorneys, support staff and legal budgets.
- Registered to practice before the USPTO.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the biologic or related sciences. An advanced degree and/or scientific research experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Service-oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross-functional teams, across different geographies, to drive results.
- Highest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively assess business risk and communicate legal issues to management across patent, legal and general business functions.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $300K to $355K plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the where the job is performed. Final individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
