We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in the manufacturing industry to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, financial reporting, and compliance. This role will play a key part in maintaining the financial health of the company, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and providing insights into the financial performance of manufacturing operations. The Senior Accountant will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations and supply chain, to ensure financial alignment with business objectives.
Responsibilities - Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the manufacturing division, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
- Conduct variance analysis on manufacturing costs, materials usage, labor, and overhead, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial reports for management and external stakeholders.
- Cost Accounting:
- Maintain and improve the cost accounting system, including standard costing, job costing, and variance analysis.
- Analyze and monitor cost structures within the manufacturing process, ensuring accurate costing of products and services.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams to understand and report on cost drivers, efficiency improvements, and production variances.
- Inventory Management:
- Oversee and manage inventory accounting, ensuring accuracy in inventory valuation and reporting.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies between book and physical inventory.
- Ensure proper controls over inventory transactions, including material usage, scrap, and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
- General Ledger and Month-End Close:
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting for the manufacturing division.
- Ensure all manufacturing-related transactions are properly recorded, classified, and summarized in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, prepaids, and other key accounts.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, particularly in relation to manufacturing costs, capital expenditures, and inventory.
- Track and report on budget versus actual performance, identifying key variances and providing recommendations for cost optimization.
- Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and manufacturing operations to safeguard company assets.
- Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations for manufacturing-related transactions.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements within the accounting function to increase efficiency and accuracy, particularly in cost accounting and financial reporting.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to optimize ERP system functionality related to manufacturing accounting.
- Provide training and support to accounting and finance staff on manufacturing accounting concepts and processes.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles, including standard costing and job costing.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills.
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data, particularly in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
