Job Title: Senior Grants and Contracts Accountant

Position Summary:
Positions in this family support budget and financial functions. Responsibilities include performing work related to accounting, budgeting, reconciliation, contract and grants management, and general fiscal assistance at the centralized administration, department, program, or other organizational unit level.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited college or university, in accounting, business, or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 – 5 years of related experience in grants & contracts administration financial analysis; relevant experience reviewing budgets and grant agreements.
- 1-2 years managerial/supervisory experience preferred.
- Must have extensive knowledge of the general ledger.
- Thorough knowledge of pre and post-award administration.
- Knowledge of fund accounting principles, and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations.
- Skill in interpreting budgets, grants, and contracts.
- Knowledge of electronic data processing as it applies to fiscal and accounting activities.
- Must be detail-oriented, accurate, analytical, and organized; with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise other employees within the department.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for preparing sponsored agencies reconciliations by source of funds budget compared to expenditures and receipts, preparing sponsored agencies financial reports, preparing letters of credit draws, related invoicing, and other grants and contracts financial responsibilities.
- Responsible for monitoring financial reports and expenditures of current grants and contracts and identifying trends associated with over/under expenditure and making recommendations to resolve these.
- Administers grants and contracts of private and governmental programs in accordance with the Institution’s financial policies, procedures, applicable federal regulations, and donor stipulations.
- Serve as a grants management subject matter expert.
- Analyzes sponsored projects data for use by faculty and staff to identify potential compliance issues, accounting irregularities, etc.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly Federal Financial Reports (SF-425), cash transactions reports, and submits through sponsor electronic systems.
- Knowledge of research administration operations, general familiarity with the higher education environment, and familiarity with sponsor regulations and OMB Circulars A-133, A21, and A-110.
- Strong computer skills proficient in using higher education or non-profit administrative products used for Grants and Contracts financial management; proficient with Microsoft Office software, special emphasis on advanced Excel use including pivot tables and advanced financial analysis tools.
- Develops and enhances fiscal reporting and analysis tools for frequent ad hoc analysis of sponsored projects activity in providing information to faculty and staff for financial monitoring purposes. Additionally, may supervise staff-level positions.
