Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage in-depth research projects into financial crime risks threatening the Group (both current and future), incorporating multiple qualitative and quantitative data points, and presenting actionable assessments and recommendations.
- Deliver within demanding timeframes, and often while balancing multiple projects.
- Source, interpret, analyse and visualise large datasets (internal and external) to support this process.
- Produce well-conceptualised and presented reports, including graphics and other tools to enhance the output.
- Work with internal, and sometimes external stakeholders as part of these projects, and contribute to enhancing the Bank’s monitoring and risk controls.
- Assist with the testing / validation of detection / analytical models, as needed.
- Ability to produce well-crafted analysis to contribute to decision forums.
- Contribute to developing and conducting training for the financial crime compliance and relevant business communities.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Appropriate Tertiary qualification, in any of the following areas: Legal, Economic, Political Risk or Financial Crime.
- Ability to demonstrate that research (data analysis, presentation, and writing) formed part of your degree.
Experience
- Minimum of 8+ years experience in a research role, preferably with knowledge of South Africa’s political economy and financial crime risk environment.
- Proven Research, Data processing, writing and presentation skills.
- Technologically astute with excellent Data analysis skills including the ability to find, clean, analyse, and extract and visualise key findings.
- Advanced excel skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work under stringent deadlines.
- A strong sense of accountability, a cross-functional collaborator, and has a “take ownership” mentality to solving messy/complex problems.
- Possess strong working knowledge of financial crimes trends and typologies.
- Ability to prioritise workflows, ensure deadlines are met, and facilitate open communication with your manager.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to concisely present key findings to stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and have strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
