This is a paid, year-round internship with 40 hours/week during the summer months, and 20 hours/week work the rest of the year. A successful candidate may start immediately as part-time, and then increase to full-time hours during the summer (May thru August).

Position Description:
TxDOT's Financial Management Division is seeking an Accounts Receivable Intern based in Austin, TX. This position performs various accounting-related activities, specifically accounts receivable. Duties may include establishing receivables and researching and reconciling cash receipts. Work requires excellent communication skills. Employees must also meet time deadlines, have a high level of attention to detail, and handle multiple tasks. Employees at this level work under supervision with minimal to limited latitude for independent judgment and initiative; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Experience or education in accounting is preferred.
Essential Duties:
- Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk assistant.
- Assists in maintaining confidential information and records.
- Maintains files, records, and logs.
- Performs preliminary research on assignments and gathers pertinent data.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
Other Conditions:
- Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and or certifications in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, or Teams is preferred.
Competencies:
- Maintaining effective working relationships with others
- Collecting, sorting and compiling data
- Protects sensitive and confidential information
- Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Sitting - prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
