Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill an Energy & Commissioning Specialist/Engineer role in either our Orlando, FL or Raleigh, NC offices.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated person with extensive experience in energy projects that include energy modeling and energy/carbon cost savings calculations, utility and government rebates, energy audits, retro-commissioning and commissioning. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting energy audits, performing detailed energy calculations, and leading retro-commissioning projects to optimize the energy performance or reduce Scope 1 carbon emissions of our clients' facilities. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Energy Projects (including Energy Roadmaps, Energy Audits and Assessments):
- Develop and calibrate detailed energy models for various types of buildings and facilities using industry-standard software (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, TRACE 700).
- Perform Level II energy audits in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines.
- Analyze building systems and energy consumption data to identify opportunities for energy savings and efficiency improvements.
- Determine facility energy or carbon benchmarks.
- Identify and prioritize facility improvement measures (FIMs), where some save energy, some reduce maintenance issues and some resolve code issues.
- Perform life cycle cost analysis and quantify potential energy savings for proposed facility improvement measures.
- Prepare comprehensive energy or carbon reports and energy audit reports and present findings to clients.
- Lead meetings and create presentations for clients and stakeholders.
Retro-Commissioning:
- Lead and execute retro-commissioning projects, including planning, investigation, implementation, and verification phases.
- Conduct on-site assessments to evaluate building systems' performance and identify potential facility improvement measures to improve operations and maintenance for the equipment and systems.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans or roadmaps to optimize HVAC, lighting, and other building systems.
- Collaborate with facility managers, maintenance personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Monitor and verify post-implementation performance to ensure sustained energy savings.
Project Management:
- Work with the Financial Project Manager to keep the project on track for schedule and budget. Project Financial Manager handles billing and earned value process.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously as a Hanson Task Manager while maintaining timely completion within budget constraints.
- Coordinate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and vendors to execute energy projects.
- Track project progress and provide regular updates to clients and senior management.
Technical Support and Training:
- Provide technical support to clients and internal teams on energy efficiency best practices and technologies.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate clients and staff on energy management strategies.
- Author articles or make presentations at technical conferences.
Qualifications:Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in audits, commissioning or engineering, with a focus on energy projects and retro-commissioning.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, TRACE 700).
- Strong understanding of building system operation, HVAC, lighting, renewables, and energy management principles.
- Experience with ASHRAE guidelines and standards for energy audits and commissioning.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.
Preferred
- Professional certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager), Energy Management Professional (EMP), Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), CCP (Certified Commissioning Professional), or LEED AP are highly desirable.
- Licensure as a professional engineer in the U.S. is preferred but not required.
- Experience with navigating through various Building Automation System (BAS) platforms, including their Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), block diagrams, and other programming logic is preferred.
- Experience with fault detection diagnostic software used in monitoring-based commissioning applications, such as SkySpark by SkyFoundry.

- Must be willing to work overtime to meet project demands when needed
