Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to continue your tax career in the corporate tax department of one of the fastest growing life insurance companies in the country. National Life Group currently has an opening for a Senior Tax Accountant to join a team that is fundamental to the tax function of the organization. This position offers a chance to broad tax and industry experience in a dynamic environment. Qualified candidates will be proven self-starters who desire to advance into future leadership positions. The Senior Tax Accountant reports to the Manager of Corporate Tax.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare/review various tax workpapers and supporting documents in support of federal and state tax filings and quarterly provisions.
- Prepare/review payments of tax filings and maintain documentations.
- Prepare/review quarterly income tax account reconciliations.
- Coordinate between various internal/external parties and service providers.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Support GAAP and statutory financial statement audits.
- Support in preparation of schedules/responses related to tax audits, inquiries, and tax notices.
- Support the tax team’s goals and objectives by assisting Tax Manager with special projects and ad hoc assignments.
- Train and mentor junior staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in preparing and/or reviewing federal income tax, state income tax and/or insurance premium tax is required.
- Experience in preparing quarterly income tax provision in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting rules (ASC 740 and SSAP 101).
- Insurance industry experience required. Life & Annuity Industry experience, preferred.
- Must have strong Microsoft Excel skills. Experience in OneSource, Premium Pro, and/or Lawson is a plus.
- CPA candidate, preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to execute within time constraints and continually manage multiple priorities.
The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
