The goal of the Property Accounting Team is to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting with no internal or external audit findings. The Property Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of bank reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and income and expense analytics. We are looking for someone that has attention to detail and strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
Please note that this job position entails in-person office requirements for a minimum of 3 days per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, located at Essex's corporate offices in Irvine, Woodland Hills, San Mateo, and Bellevue.
Responsibilities:
- Submit complete and accurate recurring and monthly Journal Entries.
- Have a solid understanding of sub ledger data and its impact to the financial statements.
- Prepare bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
- Ensure the clearing of checks and deposits and receipts on a daily basis.
- Review the accuracy and completeness of monthly rent postings.
- Reconcile and complete balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Research, analyze and provide meaningful and accurate information and reports as required.
- Work with the team lead to provide variance explanations and account information as required.
- Assist in preparing Joint Venture Reporting and its requirements.
- Ensure that checks received are timely deposited to the bank and to the correct bank account.
- Communicate professionally with community managers.
- Assist with other ad hoc requests and reports as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed.
Qualifications:
- Four-year degree in accounting or similar field from an accredited college or university.
- Detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for the research and investigation of transactional level detail.
- Must demonstrate critical thinking and have the ability to analyze transactional and financial statement level data.
- Deadline-driven individual.
- Multi-family property management accounting experience or relevant real estate experience required.
- Yardi experience preferred.

The salary range for this position is $63,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year. New hires generally start between $63,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.
This role is also eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
