JOB OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant is a key support position within the Finance group. The individual in this role performs critical support activities related to account analysis, monthly account reconciliations, and financial statement reporting.
TRAINING/TRAVEL:
- The Staff Accountant will receive on-the-job training by members of the accounting team in our Irving, TX branch.
- This position does not require travel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting
- Supports daily accounting activities and procedures (debits and credits, balance sheet reconciliation, etc.) involving the application of GAAP principles.
- Supports business processes and accounting policies.
- Supports the department's goal-setting activities, and month-end and year-end close processes.
- With direction, and on an as-needed basis, supports the development of recommendations to optimize the Company's accounting systems and procedures and to detect inaccuracies.
Analytics
- Provides support to the Senior Accountant for the review and analysis of financial data, and the creation of reports on financial status based on the analysis results.
- Assists as needed in the preparation of reports, insights, and recommendations to General Managers, which they will use as tools to enhance their ability to make data-driven decisions.
Financial Statements
- Supports the Senior Accountant as needed in forecasting activities, and in ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- With managerial guidance, performs support activities in the preparation and review of branch-level financial statements and accounting reports, as well as accurate and timely reconciliations.
- Supports the preparation of required information for the company's interactions with auditors, bankers, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years of practical accounting-related work experience, preferably in a large corporate environment.
- Foundational experience in general accounting, generating financial statements, gathering and analyzing financial inputs, etc., is required.
- Accounting-based analytical skills and experience, with a focus on providing data-driven financial insights and recommendations for operational improvements.
- A strong individual contributor who enjoys a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
- Ability to comfortably deal with ambiguities and to often function independently (after on-the-job training) with minimal supervision.
- Coachable, with the willingness and ability to internalize instructions and take actionable steps.
- Sensitive to and embraces banking, audit, and other deadlines.
EDUCATION:
- A B.S. degree or higher in a business- or accounting-related discipline is a plus.
