Ohio's Electric Cooperatives is looking for a professional to manage the Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Budget process for the company joint venture power generation operation plant assets. Additionally, manage the Cardinal Plant accounting department to achieve efficient, safe, and reliable operation of the plant and its equipment through cost-effective programs; ensure compliance with environmental regulations; monitor maintenance costs; and identify reasons for and mitigate variances to plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for Buckeye Power’s and Cardinal’s systems processes for accounting, financial reporting, invoicing, and budgeting for power generation plant assets.
- Manage plant accounting, including Labor Entry, Accounts Payable, Fuel Accounting, Contracts, and other administrative functions, to maximize the safe, efficient, and economical generation of electrical power.
- Responsible for the preparation of Cardinal Operating Company financial statements.
- Collaborate with power plant staff responsible for approval of capital and operating expenses.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy of invoices, accuracy of cost amounts, account alignments, and ensure billing is assigned to appropriate owners.
- Collaborate with Plant personnel to document and recommend improvements to the job cost and accounting systems.
- Work closely with Procurement and Material Management on material, contract, and insurance related matters.
- Formulate policies and procedures as necessary for accounting activities.
- Ensure all Accounting rules, policies, and procedures are being enforced among the department and updated as needed to meet the needs of the business.
- Develop short and long-range plans for adequate manning sizes, schedules, and proper manpower complement.
- Provide backup to the Senior Accountant I – Treasury, including daily cash management, issuing checks/ACHs, company credit cards, petty cash, and bank deposits.
- Prepare schedules, analysis, answer audit inquiries, and provide recommendations, as necessary, during annual company audits.
- Ensure adequate backup for position by training appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance is required.
Licenses and Certifications: CPA Certificate preferred.
Experience:
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible business and accounting experience.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Multi-site management preferred.
- Relevant on-the-job experience or education over and above the requirement described above may be substituted for part of the experience requirement.
Abilities & Skills Required:
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of utility accounting, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the Uniform System of Accounts of the Rural Utilities Service is preferred.
- Superior ability to apply accounting principles.
- Expert ability to organize work and set priorities.
- Mastery with various business software programs, including Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High degree of skill working on confidential matters.
Physical Requirements:
This onsite work environment requires: Frequent; Sedentary work, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, close visual acuity, work with a computer, keyboard, and communicate with others. Periodic: Lift objects of nominal weight.
Work Environment: Travel approximately up to 20 percent of workdays. Work outside normal schedule is required.
