This position will be responsible for driving the development of a world class continuous improvement program including planning, leading, and executing large scale strategic programs. The role encompasses program leadership – leading multiple cross functional projects and workstreams, as well as directing the implementation of strategies that drive a continuous improvement culture (Lean Leadership, Kaizen, DMAIC, visual management, training, etc.) This position serves as a key continuous improvement advisor to the organization, including building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with senior leaders and providing expert guidance in the understanding and deployment of continuous improvement principles and tools in the organization. Additionally, this role will represent the site on network level teams, responsible for setting strategy and prioritizing network level initiatives. The Associate Director, Operational Excellence leads and manages an operational excellence team to analyze, deploy, and improve key elements of the continuous improvement program.
Education:
- BS in business, engineering, biology, or equivalent scientific discipline preferred.
- Six Sigma Black certification or equivalent credentials in Lean preferred.
- Master’s Degree in business, manufacturing, or engineering preferred.
Experience:
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years' experience in operations, process improvement, or related function.
- 5 years of experience in cGMP facility.
- Demonstrated experience in leading lean, operational excellence, six sigma, right first time, continuous improvement, and process mapping improvements.
- 3+ years managing teams to obtain results and managing team development.
- Proven experience in project management, facilitation, and change management.
- Or relevant combined education and industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High understanding of cGMP regulations and FDA guidance applicable to biologics or medical device.
- Strong business acumen, judgment, and maturity with ability to connect continuous improvement outcomes to business value.
- Demonstrated leadership of multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups including the ability to navigate a heavily matrixed organization.
- Ability to lead in a high paced team environment, driving deadline accountability, and prioritizing work from multiple projects.
- Proven ability to represent site strategy and influence on global teams.
- Proven ability to analyze data to make fact-based decisions and develop long-range vision with progressive business plans.
- Source of imaginative, thorough, innovative solutions to a wide range of problems.
- Advanced critical reasoning, negotiation, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to interact and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive the development and implementation of a world class continuous improvement program, developing and promoting an organic continuous improvement capability over time by embedding standard work, visual management, and other key practices into day-to-day processes.
- Accountable for the delivery of high impact, complex improvement projects of large scope and complexity.
- Provide data analysis to enable the selection and measurement of key capacity, cost of goods, right first time, and value stream improvement projects.
- Serve as a key continuous improvement advisor to the organization, including building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with senior leaders and providing expert guidance in the understanding and deployment of continuous improvement principles and tools in the organization.
- Lead a team of continuous improvement staff to analyze, deploy, and improve key elements of the continuous improvement program.
- Mentor and motivate direct reports and cross-functional teams to deliver results under demanding timelines.
- Exhibit leadership behaviors including collaborating for results, developing strategy, and deploying teams to effectively obtain results.
- Build a collaborative team environment that fosters decisive decision making, appropriate risk taking, and accountability.
- Build and strengthen continuous improvement competencies across the organization by developing the design of training curricula, facilitating trainings and workshops, coaching, and providing constructive feedback to project teams.
- Acts as a key facilitator of change for highly complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Actively participates in the continuous improvement community of practice.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to travel as needed, less than 25% of time.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $166,000 to $208,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
