Cultivate Learning has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director for Continuous Quality Improvement to join their team.
The Associate Director for Continuous Quality Improvement, reporting to the Director of Professional Learning and Coaching, will support Cultivate Learning’s core value to increase access to high-quality, equitable learning environments for children, youth and families. The main components of this role are:
- Providing leadership, strategic thinking, and a process for continuous quality improvement to align the learnings from Washington state system evaluation efforts to professional development initiatives. Specifically:
- Use data from the WA Workforce Research and Landscape Analysis to develop comprehensive professional development plans in partnership with external partners. When relevant, identify and leverage Cultivate Learning resources that fill any gaps or needs for educators.
- Support the strategic connections between professional development and Early Achievers with internal team members and external partners.
- Use ongoing data for continuous quality improvement of coach training and certificate, and continue to expand the coach offerings aligned with system development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coaching Support and Professional Development (40%)
- In collaboration with Center leadership and other collaborators, develop innovative approaches to disseminate practice-based coaching for childcare providers.
- Develop and manage content projects for coach certificate and other coach training pathways.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and support to Early Achievers coaches through professional learning teams, regionally based consultation and skill-based webinars and materials for scaffolded learning to providers and promoting resiliency.
- Foster ongoing positive and productive relationships with Washington partners such as Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), Child Care Aware (CCA), School’s Out Washington (SOWA) and regional leaders.
- Use independent judgment related to coaching support (e.g., determining if, when and to whom issues need to be discussed related to coaching practice and supervision).
- Provide oversight of team content projects and write high quality content for trainings, courses, micro-learning, credentials and other professional pathways.
- Direct the delivery of community trainings and facilitate training on content specialty areas such as early math and science, responsive caregiving, curriculum, etc.
- Independently support local and national marketing efforts for the use of CECI within systems and the online Coach Certificate.
- Stay current with the research literature related to coaching, professional development and quality ratings of childcare.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of large-scale Institutes and special professional development events.
- Review data and analyze PD gaps, bright spots and needs to develop project plans and strategic planning for Washington state PD.
- Collaborate internally with resource development, web development, design and media, and communication teams to ensure all resources are high quality and accessible to the field.
- Community Relations (10%)
- Develop strong and effective collaborative relationships with DCYF, CCA of WA, SOWA, ECEAP, and the regional coordinators for systematic support of educators, professional development partners, coaches, and other national partners.
- As designated by or in collaboration with Center leadership, assist in community relations endeavors via presentations, outreach etc.
- Develop community partnerships that help increase awareness of Cultivate Learning and engender progress towards supporting children, families and the aspects of quality care that foster child outcomes including co-creation of curriculum and resources with partner input and leveraging of existing resources.
- Leverage and use data from statewide landscape and workforce initiatives to build strategy and communication plans with external partners.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective systems of communication between project staff and with external partners.
- Management and Operations (25%)
- Supervise and lead the work of 3 FTE and will have the authority to evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.
- Provide ongoing leadership and direction to the team while also mentoring and providing growth opportunities for them to develop professionally in their positions.
- Implement and maintain University office policies related to personnel issues.
- Monitor the work of team members to ensure that correct procedures are followed. Provide direction to assure completion of tasks and projects. Coordinate with Center leadership on the development of annual plans and timelines to direct the flow of work and meet Center deadlines.
- Ensure team members are current on the latest trends, issues, and advances in workforce development.
- Oversee staff performance, including annual staff performance review process, and work with The College of Education HR Director on corrective action plans and performance management as necessary.
- Manage project specific budgets including vendor costs and monitoring specific grant budget details on a monthly basis in collaboration with Director.
- Review and approve staff leave requests and timesheets. Meet with direct reports regularly to share ideas, give direction, and resolve problems.
- Develop and maintain logs and documents to track key project decisions and sub-tasks in order to assist staff in managing timelines and to document progress towards Cultivate Learning center goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Content Development and Training (25%)
- Support content development for professional development projects and trainings.
- Deliver trainings on a variety of early childhood topics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Services, Education and Adult Learning or Public Policy, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in the field related to early learning, childcare quality and coaching.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Significant experience in leading a team and overseeing staff development and performance management as needed.
- Knowledge of childcare quality research.
- Experience in Early Childhood Education, Professional Development and Coaching.
- Demonstrated independence, initiative, excellent time management and organizational skills, and a sound understanding of task prioritization.
- Demonstrated success in project administration, leadership, and management.
- Superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; strong presentation skills.
- Ability to think critically and strategically, identifying creative approaches to problem solving.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Doctoral Degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health or related field.
