The Medical Affairs Company, on behalf of its client, is initiating a US-based, field medical hematology team to represent and reflect the company’s values as a science-driven, patient-centric organization. The MSLs will engage with key stakeholders at academic and community centers, serving as a strategic partner to fellow cross-functional team members and are experts on the company’s scientific data, products, and trials.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing medical and scientific expertise in Immune Thrombocytopenia and other potential non-malignant hematology indications:
- Develop and maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise of relevant diseases (products, development and treatment plans, and be acknowledged internally and externally as an expert).
- Partner with HEOR, Patient Advocacy and Global Commercial Planning and Readiness to create a thorough internal understanding of hematology indication opportunities.
- Identify potential high-impact medical research projects and publication opportunities (e.g., white papers to inform treatment guidelines), in line with the company’s identified areas of interest.
- Attend appropriate local, national, and international meetings and congresses to gather intelligence, develop productive collaborations, ensuring insights are shared within the organization.
HCP Engagement
- Identify, recommend and support site principal investigators (PIs) for ongoing and planned clinical trials.
- Promote clinical trial engagement through scientific exchange and presentations.
- Ensure timely and informative scientific/medical exchanges and education for healthcare professionals on topics like disease awareness, diagnostics, treatment, and adherence that accurately reflect scientific data and research objectives, compliantly and in line with medical strategy.
KOL Engagement
- Identification of hematology KOLs/HCPs to build a map for future indications to lay a foundation for successful launches.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to collaborate on research projects, advisory boards and peer-to-peer educational initiatives.
- Engage in development-related activities by collaborating with investigators and study sites to facilitate participation in clinical trials and provide guidance on study protocols, patient recruitment, etc.
- Identify and collaborate with community hematology sites to drive patient referrals to activated clinical trial sites.
- Collaborate with KOLs on evidence generation including design of health economic trials and interpretation and applications of emerging clinical and real-world health economic research.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Ensure close working relationship with cross-functional field partners, Global Commercial Planning and Readiness team, Clinical Development/Operations compliantly, to ensure launch readiness.
- Support cross-functional teams to ensure operations are patient-focused, including rapidly responding to internal and external requests to discuss specific situations and challenges and provide medical affairs support to all stakeholders.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Scientific, healthcare or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO).
- 1+ years field-based experience in biopharmaceutical industry required.
- Experience in clinical R&D and/or medical affairs preferred.
- Therapeutic area experience in hematology, and specifically ITP, is an advantage.
- Experience working with clinical research organizations (CRO) directly is preferred.
- Strong clinical, scientific and business acumen.
- Strong knowledge of the US healthcare landscape, including hospital systems and healthcare professionals.
- Strong understanding of compliance, legal and regulatory landscape related to interactions with healthcare professionals.
- Fluency in translating market research and data-driven insights into actionable strategic initiatives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and VEEVA.
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific and medical information to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are imperative; ability to anticipate and adapt to change; strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with partners, investigators, contractors, consultants, and team members across functions.
- Established track record of effective and influential oral presentations to both large and small audiences within the healthcare profession.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to work independently yet engage collaboratively within Field team to complete tasks in a timely fashion. Excellent organizational skills and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment.
- Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and programs such as Zoom are expected.
- Ability to manage a geographically assigned territory from a home-based office.
- A willingness to travel within the assigned region is required; overnight travel is required.
- Valid driver’s license.
