General Job Description
Dogwood Industries is seeking a strategic-thinking and detail-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) that relishes the chance to expand operations to meet Dogwood’s high demand while maintaining exceptional quality, on-time delivery, and profit margins. The performance incentives for this position guarantee that success will be rewarded. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will serve as the key point person to ensure that departmental capabilities align with the overall business strategy. The COO will oversee and coordinate day-to-day operational activities across engineering, production, program and project management, procurement, finance, and the various supporting departments to ensure that customer demands are met effectively and efficiently. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a keen ability to strategically envision the big picture while seamlessly drilling down to the details as needed. The COO will serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the CEO to advance Dogwood’s mission and support sustained growth and success.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO and other members of the leadership team to execute Dogwood’s mission and establish strategic goals and objectives to best serve customers
- Develop and implement long-term business strategies, operational plans, and initiatives to drive growth and profitability
- Monitor Dogwood’s operational performance, budgets, and key performance indicators to ensure profitability and cost control
- Validate the preparation of internal financial reports and ensure that the reports reliably and accurately reflect Dogwood’s position
- Analyze corporate information and operational metrics to make informed data-driven decisions and recommendations
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day operational activities across engineering, production, program and project management, procurement, finance, and various supporting departments
- Lead efforts to streamline processes, optimize resource allocation, and implement best practices and corrective actions
- Exhibit a sense of urgency in executing tasks and projects while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards
- Ensure seamless communication and collaboration between departments to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance
- Foster a solutions-oriented culture through problem solving, continuous improvement, and accountability across Dogwood
- Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to ensure a strong internal talent pipeline
- Other duties and responsibilities as required
Requirements
- Proven track record of success in senior leadership roles within manufacturing and/or construction
- Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen ability to drive results and achieve objectives
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities, with experience building high-performing teams and fostering a positive work environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in project management, budgeting, and resource management
- Experience utilizing and optimizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to enhance operational efficiency and data management
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is preferred
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, safety standards, and quality management systems is preferred
- Experience with structural steel and industrial fabrication is preferred
