Overview
The Senior Underwriter administers the underwriting and servicing of new and renewal accounts for assigned Nonprofit agents and producers in compliance with Company underwriting, authority, and pricing standards.
Responsibilities
- Write and retain a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing and servicing. Maintain compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines. Operate within written authority grant and make referrals to Nonprofit and Home Office Underwriting as required.
- Collaborate closely with Nonprofit team. Keep peers and Nonprofit Management informed of all issues and activity.
- In collaboration with Nonprofit Management, develop and implement a business plan for the assigned agents and geographic area and share accountability with team in meeting goals.
- Coach agents on underwriting appetite and protocols in conjunction with corporate training guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Nonprofit and Regional teams to develop, manage and maintain outside client relationships which will include traveling in the territory to meet with agents, producers and nonprofit associations or organizations. Actively plan and participate in industry events as required such as but not limited to agency or association conventions.
- Provide professional, timely and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross-departmental staff to successfully resolve issues pertaining to policyholders and agents.
- Provide pertinent information and guidance to support staff required to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines.
- Collaborate with support team on reports and update databases as required.
- Assist in gathering and communicating competitive information.
Qualifications
- 10 years of commercial lines property and casualty experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of characteristic exposures of nonprofit organizations
- Technical command of underwriting of liability, professional, property, automobile, and umbrella exposures of nonprofit organizations
- Ability to interpret and analyze information so as to make informed risk selections and pricing decisions
- Ability to participate in and contribute to Nonprofit business planning
- Respect for confidential information
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Enjoyment of being part of a team of like-minded nonprofit insurance professionals
- Ability to travel within the assigned territory and to the Home Office as required
- CPCU or CIC designation
