Marketplaces have become an integral part of the global economy, providing a platform for customers and sellers to connect and transact. However, with the increasing demand from customers of online marketplaces, the need to drive assortments have also multiplied. As a result, ensuring new programs to acquire unique assortments from Sellers and provide an elevated & differentiated shopping experience to customers is mission critical for Walmart.
What you'll do:
As part of Walmart's Marketplace Product org, the Categories team is tasked with creating a frictionless E2E journey, from assortment program enablement to seller onboarding to driving categories success by empowering customers to seamlessly discover and secure the best deals. The Director of Product Management for Marketplace Categories (Automotive, Sporting Goods, Furniture) will play a dual role at Walmart: building product strategies for key categories and executing against them to drive success of our Marketplace sellers as well as championing for enhancing the digital experience for millions of Walmart customers. The leader will define the overarching vision and strategies for the product family, drawing from domain expertise, market trends, internal and external best practices, and by spotting market opportunities. By leading a forward-thinking team of Product Managers, this leader will craft the right tools for Sellers and evolve our platform catering to a vast product range as well as consumer-centric shopping solutions across our digital touchpoints. The leader in this role will navigate challenges on an impressive scale to balance seller growth with customer-centricity and always with an eye to the future.
You will sweep us off our feet if:
- You have 12+ years of experience in building strategy and launching new retail/ecommerce product categories for large marketplaces.
- Proven track record leading complex product initiatives, including launching 0-1 products and scaling existing products.
- You have led and/or built high performing product teams including manager of managers and these teams specialize in capabilities across UX, retail or ecommerce platforms, Marketplace, or Vendor onboarding.
- You are customer obsessed and always think about how to bring value to retail shoppers and suppliers.
- You have experience in helping change mindsets and processes to drive thought leadership backed by strong execution.
- You are comfortable working with ambiguity and can navigate large stakeholder groups across product divisions, business, operations, design, store and eng orgs.
- You have demonstrated excellent leadership and people management abilities, with a proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
- You have a solid understanding of the flow of the inventory from suppliers all the way to the customer's doorstep. You are adept at diving deep into API responses, crafting visions with Balsamiq sketches, and turning raw ideas into tangible mocks on Sketch or Figma.
- You have demonstrated ability to adapt to changes, working in an agile manner, unphased by the new and the now, always ready for the next pivot.
- You have experience & strong bias for working with data scientists, UX, Retail led organization and solving for complex product launches.
- You possess exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You will make an impact by:
- Working closely with key partners across the organization in Business, Engineering, UX, Data analytics, Operations, and other product teams to develop and own a strategy that supports Walmart marketplace categories' needs, is clearly articulated, easily understood, and delivers meaningful value to our sellers, customers and Walmart business.
- Develop an actionable roadmap that empowers your team to realize the product strategy and execute that strategy with well-measured goals. Prioritize work thoughtfully and communicate commitments and updates to partners on an ongoing cadence.
- Build MVP scope including target customer segment and key success metrics. Test MVP in market, iterate based on customer feedback, and assess product market fit.
- Develop and own accountability for the performance of key metrics that help us understand the value of the platform to our sellers.
- Regularly present to company executives on roadmap progress, strategy, and prioritization.
- Work with operational analysts to find opportunities, and craft both back-end and customer-facing solutions to address compliance issues.
- Integrate user research, market analysis, and customer feedback into product requirements to ensure products satisfy customer needs, as well as wants.
- Create and maintain strong working relationships with your key stakeholders, identifying the right opportunities for collaboration and communication on an ongoing basis.
- Partnering with Software and Data Engineering leadership to foster a strong cross-functional working relationship.
- Moving fast within our agile and iterative team environment.
- Leading & empowering team of Managers & IC PMs to foster a product excellence culture for strong product thinking and execution. Build upon existing or create stronger process, planning, and documentation tools.
Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related area and 11 years' experience in product management. Option 2: 13 years' experience in product management or related area.

Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related area and 10 years' experience as a product manager, ideally working on consumer-facing, large-scale, highly complex B2B/C products, Supervisory experience, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
