SUMMARY:
Managing the financial aspects and reporting within the company, and ensuring that all financial activities are tracked, reported, and controlled according to requirements and timelines. This role involves working closely with project managers, finance teams, and internal staff to oversee reporting and accounting development for projects and overhead pools, general financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. The Lead Accountant will maintain accounting controls and assist the Controller to provide accurate financial information to management and stakeholders to facilitate decision making. This position will oversee a project’s financial performance, record revenue and work with the project managers on expenses, cost reconciliations, and budgets to ensure financial project performance is optimized. The position will help coordinate audit activity with external auditors and maintain proper record controls.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, apply and evaluate cost control techniques to support the monitoring, managing and reporting of projects costs.
- Analyze and report data to develop a complete and accurate financial picture of each individual project.
- Track project expenses and prepare project financial reports.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements with accuracy and integrity, in conformance with US generally accepted cost accounting principles.
- Assist with developing and revising accounting policies and procedures to support the company in maintaining sound financial practices.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting transactions and balances, including timely reconciliation of revenue and associated costs.
- Determine proper accounting treatment of complex and/or unusual transactions.
- Interacts with and provides support to program management, company executives and the Chief Executive Officer.
- Ensure compliant subcontract reporting to various state and government agencies.
- Ensure proper calculation and compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requirements and Cost Accounting Standards.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting, finance, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Managerial Accountant preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of five years related experience of a medium sized company to include heavy project/cost accounting principles, reporting, and general accounting experience. Strong problem solving and analytical skills required. Advanced knowledge of Excel and proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365 platform and related financial software applications. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Unanet, Deltek, SAP, or Oracle), MS Excel, and ERP systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highly detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
- Highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a team player and willing to assist in multiple areas as necessary.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
None required. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
SALARY RANGE: 70K - 90K annually
