Summary:
Assists in maintaining the accounts and books of the company and preparing daily and monthly journal entries and financial reports. Assists in maintaining the company's electronic ledger systems and assists department in providing various account reconciliations.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes financial transactions to assure conformity and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Assists in preparation of monthly financials.
- Assists with daily cash reports reconciliation of cash receipts to various ledger systems and bank reconciliations.
- Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure account balances are true and accurate as presented.
- Preparation of key financial analysis critical toward development of company-wide strategic initiatives.
- Assists in preparation of year-end schedules as needed.
- Adheres to Brown University Health guidelines and policies for protecting patients' demographic clinical and financial information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works collaboratively across departments as a finance resource.
- Prepares monthly variance analysis of key organizational metrics.
- Analyzes results, monitors variances, identifies and investigates trends/changes, and recommends actions to stakeholders.
Other Information:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance related field.
- At least one year of prior experience in accounting/finance.
- Any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent is also acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Principles and practices of accounting and financial operations.
- Basic management information system applications for accounting and bookkeeping functions (Peoplesoft experience a plus).
- Accrual and Cash basis of accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced skills in Excel.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to perform complex financial data analysis.
- Ability to multi-task and operate under pressure with the skills to think critically and problem solve.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Examining and verifying financial documents and reports.
- Analyzing and preparing various financial reports.
- Ability to work well independently with others and in teams.
- Must be committed to providing superior customer service to all.
- Working knowledge of accounting terms and processes and with general and supporting ledgers.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with the capability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
- Must be flexible and receptive to change with the ability to learn quickly and retain new information.
- Detail and process-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Physical Requirements:
- This role works primarily in a remote capacity and has daily communications through virtual meetings; some time in the office may be required for meetings, trainings, etc.
- Sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Work and move among all departments of Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care group.
- Excellent hand/eye coordination.
- Lift up to 15 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to operate personal computers and standard office machines and equipment as it pertains to one's position.
Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking:
- To transfer information from paper to computer, from computer to computer, and to communicate in person and on the telephone.
