Job Description
HBK is searching for an Accountant to join our Management Company Accounting team in Dallas, the firm’s headquarters.
The Management Company Accounting team is responsible for the accounting and finance functions for the global group of entities that comprise the management companies. This involves a wide range of areas including financial reporting, data analysis, budgeting, cash flow forecasts, disbursements, expense allocations, leases, fixed assets, travel, and vendor management. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to join a highly visible team which has regular interactions with employees throughout the firm, vendors worldwide, the external administrator, auditors, and global regulators.
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in managing the firm’s financial operations, including disbursements, treasury activities, and support for key functions like vendor management and travel. This role offers high potential for impact within the firm and opportunities for growth.
Job Responsibilities
- Disbursements Management: Ensure payments are properly approved, cross-referenced with valid source documents (contracts and purchase orders), and accurately recorded in the general ledger. Manage HBK’s custom OCR technology designed for vendor payments.
- Treasury Operations: Oversee treasury activities for multiple management company entities, including ensuring adequate liquidity to meet financial obligations, optimizing investments of surplus cash in money market funds, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Expense Reporting Management: Oversee the employee expense report process by configuring system categories and approval workflows, training employees on system usage, ensuring timely and accurate submission, reviewing documentation, auditing for policy compliance, and ensuring correct accounting entries are automated and recorded.
- Financial Data Analysis: Collect and analyze financial data to support departmental reporting, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting, providing critical insights for financial planning.
- Vendor Management: Assist in facilitating the vendor management process, including supporting contract negotiations and renewals. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams – such as front office, development, technology and legal – to ensure smooth and efficient vendor operations.
- Tax Support: Provide financial information to support periodic tax filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant tax regulations.
- Travel Analysis and Reporting: Support the firm’s travel function, including travel data analysis, expense review, forecasting, and policy reviews to enhance efficiency and cost management.
- Special Projects: Lead and participate in special projects within the Accounting team, including drafting policy and procedure documentation and collaborating with HBK’s development team to enhance accounting systems and processes.
Required Job Skills
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Business with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus
- 1-3 years of experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain poised and confident when communicating at all levels within the firm. Ability to research and respond quickly to questions raised by employees including senior management
- Show initiative by analyzing a situation, recommending alternatives, and implementing new or enhanced procedures, when necessary
- Strong attention to detail. Able to work quickly and efficiently with low error rate
- Proficient in Excel and knowledge (or willingness to learn) data visualization tools including Microsoft Power BI
- Effective time management and organization skills, with the ability to evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
- Strong analytical skills to assess and solve problems efficiently
- Sound sense of judgment
