The Country Risk Senior Officer is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business. Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers.
The overall objective is to provide support to country risk management officers in managing the country risks facing their franchises.
Responsibilities:
- Acting as a point of contact for country risk management officers and cluster risk heads as they manage country risk management requirements.
- Developing and maintaining the framework for Country and Franchise Reviews and Country Risk Council reviews.
- Supporting franchises in setting and managing within approved country limits (notional, risk capital, crossborder, stress loss), including escalation and remediation of breaches.
- Partnering with In-country Business Risk Management to enhance country risk management frameworks.
- Assisting franchises in executing required and recommended Watchlist actions in a timely manner.
- Establishing standards for documenting franchise actions, and ensuring adherence.
- Identifying key metrics for country risk oversight.
- Developing consistent country exposure reporting metrics.
- Maintaining indicators to track developments in countries of concern.
- Identifying and engaging on cross-country topics (e.g., trapped capital, risk/return metrics, portfolio concentrations).
- Ensuring broad consistency between country and legal vehicle risk management frameworks.
- Preparing presentations for senior management and internal governance bodies.
- Ensuring key country strategy topics are appropriately escalated to the Global Country Risk Committee.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience.
- Experience as a Credit Officer or in Credit risk management preferred.
- Highly motivated, team oriented, organized.
- Excellent communication skills in order to negotiate internally and externally.
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage several large programs simultaneously.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred.
