National Energy System Operator (NESO) are looking for a Senior Economics Specialist to join the REMA Strategy team. This exciting opportunity will allow the post holder to work across the REMA programme and other NESO strategic programmes, contributing to create an aligned strategy that underpins key messages and decisions.
The Senior Economics Specialist will work in collaboration with REMA policy teams to ensure key messages are consistent, maximising the value of the REMA programme to enable a decarbonised, secure, and affordable energy system. The role will also require strong quantitative skills, as the REMA strategy team will play a crucial role in supporting other REMA teams in their quantitative work.
The role holder will develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to a wide range of policy work and ensuring NESO views are coherent across workstreams.
This role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
- Robust quantitative and qualitative methodologies for analysis of key GB electricity outcomes.
- Lead on policy and strategy development (writing papers, developing strategic frameworks for assessment).
- Communicating effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
About you

- Passionate about energy, markets, policy.
- Understanding of GB electricity market design.
- Understanding of economics of investment in GB power system.
- Experience of power system modelling is desirable.
- Solid experience of using Plexos is desirable.
- Strong communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Passionate about communicating complex issues to audiences with varying levels of familiarity in power systems and power markets.
- Flexibility and agility to manage a wide range of issues at the same time and to prioritise use of resources.
- Solid experience of using quantitative and qualitative evidence to develop a thoughtful and independent viewpoint.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £60,000 - £68,000pa – dependent on experience and capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
