About the Job
The Project GC Accountant is responsible for all aspects of financial management and support related to ongoing construction activities for JPI projects. The position works closely with the project operations team, including management and field associates, to ensure that all project hard costs are appropriately accounted for and controlled. The position also works closely with the Project Owner Accounting Team to ensure seamless handover of financial data and processes related to project soft costs.
The Project GC Accountant position has direct career progression to Senior and Lead positions, each representing higher levels of experience, responsibility, and oversight. Wider career opportunities and progression within the JPI Financial Services Organization is also possible.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly draw process for hard cost projects: adhere to draw due dates, assist subcontractors with monthly billings, review subcontractor pay applications & associated lien waivers, analyze cash flow, and work with project management teams to account for non-routine project costs.
- Set-up mapping and integration requirements between sub billing platform and construction management system: link/map subcontractor commitments, change orders, and pay applications.
- Create Accounting Journals associated with the draw: construction fee, warranty, overhead reimbursements, and various other transactions.
- Generate recurring and ad-hoc reports to provide data/analytics for use by construction operations and accounting teams.
- Monitor draw funding and project cash balances to ensure timely payment for vendors and subcontractors. Collect necessary lien waivers after payments have been initiated.
- Reconcile WIP for all hard costs: validate all project costs are accounted for in construction management system to ensure accurate reporting throughout the lifecycle of a project.
- Assist with the integration of data between the construction management & financial systems: suppliers, projects, commitments, change orders, and subcontractor pay applications.
- Support project management team with budget creation and changes, contract execution, and other administrative project set-up tasks.
Non-Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Act as a representative and advocate of JPI's Culture and Guiding Principles.
- Act as a liaison with the Business Systems team to resolve systems issues.
- Help document, enforce, and continuously improve JPI financial procedures and policies.
- Assist Regional Construction team with special projects. Attend PSR, OAC, and other project team meetings.
- Field questions from Subcontractors/vendors on draws/invoices.
Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' work experience in accounting, finance, and/or construction cost management.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
- Relevant accounting experience in Construction and Real Estate/Property Management is a plus.
- Job Cost Accounting experience is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Procore and/or large ERP experience is preferred.
