General Description (Position Overview)
The Bookkeeper position records and organizes the financial data for Move United, a 501c3 nonprofit. The position will manage restrictions, grants, and expenses in detail as you enter, classify, and organize financial data for the purpose of creating accurate financial records for our organization. The position will work to maintain thorough and accurate financial records to comply with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and to maintain our tax-exempt status with the IRS.
Specific Responsibilities
Financial Management Systems
- Recording all expenditures, donations, payments, and other financial information
- Track income and expenses
- Record and classify payments and bank transfers
- Organize and maintain receipts
- Create invoices for goods, services, and donations
- Enter bills and vendor invoices
- Execute data entry to keep the general ledger current
- Allocate revenue and expenses to restricted fund accounts
- Prepare the data that will be used to create the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Handling general purchases and deposits
- Tracking and managing the daily transactions for the organization and recording the regularly occurring financial changes
- Assisting with 1099 preparation
- Work with the Finance team to continuously improve the services, processes, and scope of the department
Reporting Relationship
The Bookkeeper reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Position Requirements
Work Experience:
- Knowledge and experience in bookkeeping
- Experience with financial systems
- Experience in nonprofit management
Personal Attributes:
- Excellent communication skills, outstanding customer service experience, efficient multi-tasking, and good attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
- A proven track record of initiative and effective decision-making is required
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Experience with QuickBooks and Salesforce is a plus
Education:
Bookkeeping background or knowledge preferred
Proficiency in a range of technology and online platforms (for example; Microsoft products, Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, Salesforce, video conferencing systems, or similar) and the ability to use general office technology
