Position Summary:
Function as a business partner with the company’s operating units in the development and analysis of manufacturing standard costs and project costs across multiple product lines. As a liaison for the Finance department, position is responsible for actively working with production personnel to assist in identifying cost reduction opportunities based on operational experience on the shop floor. Position also plays a key departmental role with month-end financial close responsibilities, financial reporting, forecasting and the annual budgeting process.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate product line profitability against standard cost performance via analysis of monthly production variances and absorption results on a full cost and variable cost basis. Review results with key operational personnel to ensure staff has a thorough understanding of causal factors.
- Identify opportunities and recommend improvements in recognizing and managing factory costs. Correct costing errors as required.
- Highlight major project cost activities through active participation in business unit review of key initiatives. Identify opportunities for improvement in internal controls associated with the management and execution of projects.
- Perform month-end financial closing activities including, but not limited to, cost of goods sold calculations, preparation of variance analyses, project cost tracking, reconciliation of inventory and liability accounts and preparation/posting of related journal entries and month end reports. Identify continuous improvement opportunities that will lead to reduction of the monthly financial closing cycle.
- Audit inventory cycle-count activities, timekeeping results as necessary.
- Assist manufacturing units in the development of annual budgeted departmental labor rates.
- Assist with the annual inventory cost roll-up on General Ledger system.
- Special projects as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum 5 years of related manufacturing cost accounting experience; background in project cost management and government contracts a plus.
- Working knowledge of finance and accounting principles. Clear understanding of financial statements including Balance Sheets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive communication and ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally.
- Planful and results driven.
- Attention to detail to accurately and efficiently meet aggressive deadlines.
- Experience with an ERP General Ledger environment is key. MRP exposure is a plus.
- Database report writing experience is essential.
- Flexible and adaptable to changes in work assignments and/or priorities.
- Occasional domestic travel may be required.
