Position Summary
Exro, a leading clean technology company providing proprietary motor control and complete electronic propulsion systems for e-mobility, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant. Leveraging your manufacturing experience, you will oversee cost accounting activities providing accurate recording of costs, analysis of variances, reporting, analyzing, and tracking production costs on vehicle builds by VIN. This role also contributes to budget development and implementation of cost control measures. The Senior Cost Accountant collaborates with our operations and supply chain team providing insight into cost management at Exro’s locations. Responsibilities
- Accountable for timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of daily and period-end close activities for inventory and related inventory reserves, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and roll-forwards following reporting deadlines.
- Prepare monthly Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reports by vehicle number and gross margin reporting.
- Monitor and resolve daily inventory accounting and exception system reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define key metrics to ensure accurate costing and support inventory management.
- Update and maintain established costs as appropriate after setup; monitor new raw materials, packaging, WIP, and FG items.
- Collaborating with operations and engineering, responsible for creating and maintaining accurate production formulas (BOMs), labor models, and monthly cost rolls/updates.
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs, prepare periodic reports on variances by comparing expected costs to actual production costs, and provide reports and observations to management.
- Partner with Accounts Payable, Production, and Operations departments for accurate recording of inventory data, cost allocations on B2B projects; and disposition of reserves and obsolete inventory.
- Provide cost analysis and support for strategic decision-making. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of journal entries.
- Prepare, analyze, and report inventory valuations, including assessment of inventory turnover, aged inventory, and inventory obsolescence.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies and process improvement.
- Update and track project costs for incurred expenses and accruals.
- Assist with the financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements to ensure accounting procedures and reporting conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Review periodic cycle count results with the operations team and provide feedback on results and remediation as required. In addition, assist in planning and conducting annual inventory counts as required internally, and with external auditors.
- Support the implementation of ERP if needed (inventory and work order modules).
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining controls around the movement of inventory and COGS.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
- BS or MS degree in Accounting/Finance or similar.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
- At least five (5) years of work experience in the cost accounting field with a focus on manufacturing, inventory, and job costing.
- Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing and automotive environment is a strong preference for this role.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory, and cost accounting.
- Excellent understanding of costing principles per IFRS.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Experience with ERP systems; creating database queries – SAP B1 preferred.
