Data Consultant - Gender Data Analysis - J-PAL South Asia
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research center working to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. Anchored by a network of 194 affiliated professors at universities around the world, J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty. J-PAL South Asia, based at the Institute for Financial Management and Research in India, leads J-PAL’s work in the South Asia region. J-PAL South Asia conducts randomized evaluations, builds partnerships for evidence-informed policymaking, and helps partners scale up effective programs. Over more than ten years of existence, J-PAL South Asia has conducted 193 ongoing and completed randomized evaluations.
Overview of the Project
The Policy team at J-PAL South Asia is seeking a Data Intern to support its efforts in analyzing and understanding the landscape of gender-based violence (GBV) in India. The selected intern will work closely with the team to conduct data landscaping, analyze various datasets, and synthesize findings that capture both the extent and nuances of GBV across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive landscaping of existing data sources related to GBV in India, including national surveys, academic research, NGO reports, and government databases.
- Analyze large datasets to assess trends, identify gaps, and understand the prevalence and patterns of GBV across different regions and demographics.
- Produce clear, concise data visualizations, reports, and summaries to communicate findings to the team and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the policy team to integrate data insights into ongoing policy dialogues and recommendations.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and statistical skills, with proficiency in data analysis tools such as R or Stata.
- Familiarity with gender-related issues, particularly gender-based violence in the Indian context.
- Experience working with large datasets and an ability to distill complex data into intuitive insights.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, able to work independently and take initiative.
