Position Overview:
The Healthcare Consultant- Communications Specialist will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of consulting services within the Strategy and Emerging Initiatives (SEI) practice area. This position offers an opportunity to engage in impactful projects that improve public sector healthcare delivery, with a focus on Medicaid and behavioral health programs. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and passionate about making a difference in public healthcare.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, contributing to discussions and providing support in addressing client needs and queries.
- Develop and implement communication plans across programs. Design client and community-facing deliverables to inform and educate on various health care topics and initiatives.
- Create and implement comprehensive communication plans to inform and engage multiple audiences about health care services, regulations, and updates.
- Produce high-quality communication materials, including communication plans, press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, social media content, and website updates.
- Develop and distribute provider-facing outreach, education, and training materials, as well as letters and notices regarding changes to allowable services, reimbursements, regulations, processes, and responsibilities.
- Manage media relations by responding to inquiries, arranging interviews, and preparing agency spokespeople for media engagements.
- Coordinate and lead public information campaigns to promote health initiatives and services.
- Collaborate with agency leaders, staff, and external stakeholders to understand communication needs and priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, making adjustments as needed.
- Stay informed on state and federal health care regulations and policies to ensure timely and accurate communication of changes.
- Represent the agencies at public events, meetings, and forums as required.
- Provide training and support to agency staff on effective communication practices and tools.
- Assist in the planning and execution of various project tasks, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. Ensure that project deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Conduct research on healthcare policies, industry trends, and best practices. Analyze data to support the development of insights and recommendations for clients.
- Prepare project documentation, including meeting notes, status reports, and client deliverables. Ensure all materials are of high quality, consistent, and reflect the firm’s standards.
- Work closely with project leads and other consultants to ensure cohesive and coordinated project execution. Proactively contribute to team efforts and share knowledge to enhance overall project performance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, public health, healthcare administration, business, or a related field with an emphasis on communications preferred.
- Internship or equivalent working experience in health care or related field preferred; 3 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within the health care or public sector strongly preferred.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and research. Proficiency in Excel and other analytical tools is strongly preferred.
- High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all work products.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate findings and recommendations. Proven experience in media relations and managing public information campaigns.
- Familiarity with health care terminology and issues related to Medicaid, behavioral health, community-based services, and aging and independent living.
- Experience working with government agencies or non-profit organizations.
- Strong understanding of state and federal health care policies and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills to assess communication needs and measure the effectiveness of strategies.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Experience in crisis communication and handling sensitive information with discretion.

The Team:
Myers and Stauffer takes pride in the welcoming and collaborative culture we have throughout our offices. For this position, the employee will report to one of our Managers or Senior Managers on the Consulting engagement team.
Work Style:
Our general business hours are Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, but can vary based on business needs. Dependent on performance, our in-office associates are eligible for a hybrid work schedule after their initial 90-day training period.
