Must have experience with multi-sites, as this opportunity requires the candidate to oversee multiple animal hospitals in the north Houston area.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the veterinary centers they oversee are providing quality medical care with exceptional customer service and business performance through recruiting and supervising, as well as monitoring the development of outstanding medical directors and associate veterinarians.

We are looking for a District Veterinarian who:
- Supports the mission, vision, culture, and policies for complete care and well-being of pets.
- Drives a successful and growing team through hiring, recruiting, referrals, and retention, then ensures an exceptional onboarding and mentorship experience for all.
- Develops and leads the Medical Directors and veterinarian teams to ensure the care delivered in our hospitals meets industry, regulatory, and AAHA standards.
- Serves as a mentor to staff, providing stability and leadership within the hospital(s).
- Provides the medical directors and associate veterinarians with one-on-one development, supporting quarterly production performance and coaching for improvement.
- Can confidently manage conflict, deliver strong messages when needed, and address issues while effectively using consultation and feedback.
- Understands how people learn differently and helps tailor their development where appropriate, flexing style and methods.
- Endeavors to always deliver the highest standard of service.
- Meets regularly with Practice Manager(s) on weekly priorities and expectations, and reviews controllable costs (DVM and support payroll, inventory, etc.)
- Plays a significant part in the decision-making process and implementation of any new initiatives within their hospital(s).
- Is innovative and has responsibility for developing and changing practices and/or services in a complex and unpredictable environment.
- Leads from the front, consistent in their positive approach, focusing on the outcome/result even when presented with obstacles.
- Participate in weekly operational conference calls.
- Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
- Have strong proven leadership abilities, strong mentoring and team-building skills, and excellent communication with colleagues and the referring community.
- Actively participate in national, state, and local veterinary associations.
- Fosters relationships with veterinary students and promotes externships in their hospitals.
Clinical Focus:
- Area Medical Director providing clinical, surgical, and specialty responsibilities (60-80% of the time) with at least one non-clinical day scheduled each week.
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats animals surgically or medically; basic surgical and dental skills required (spay, neuter, mass removal, dental extractions, etc.)
- Operates medical equipment
- Prescribes medication
Experience, training, and education:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required.
- Five years of clinical veterinary experience is required.
- Two years of hospital leadership experience are required.
- Two years of veterinary multi-location management experience required.
- Active, valid veterinary license in at least one state of responsibility, DEA license, and USDA Accreditation are required.
