Responsibilities Director of Performance Improvement and Risk Management
Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley -- a region best known for its natural beauty -- in the charming city ofStaunton, Virginia. We provide trauma-informed psychiatric residential treatment to adolescent males who are experiencing complex emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. Our residential programs are specifically designed for youth with psychiatric disorders and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. We also specialize in working with young men who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. We are a 42-bed facility with a program that prepares these young men for return to a home, a less restrictive environment, or to independent living. Our primary focus is on encouraging constructive change and personal growth, learning positive ways to get appropriate attention, improving behavior choices, developing a sense of responsibility for actions, learning problem-solving skills, and developing thinking patterns that support positive relationships.
The Director of PI and Risk Management is responsible for the ongoing, effective operation of various performance improvement, patient safety, and risk management activities. Such responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performance and oversight of the claim management functions including investigation and analysis, performance of risk assessments including new services, performance of root cause analysis for the system including action plan tracking and facilitation, and management of the Patient Safety Council with incorporation of the corporate TERM program into the overall risk management program.
- Works collaboratively with department directors and the executive team to implement Corporate and Facility risk reduction strategies.
- Provides expertise to regulatory and compliance standards and processes.
- Position entails data analysis, reporting, educating, providing leadership, and being accountable for related activities.
- Assists in claims management by facilitating the investigation and documentation of incidents, including preserving essential records for legal purposes, and reporting to Corporate Risk Management.
- Actively participates in committees such as Patient Safety Council and Quality Council, contributing to the development and/or improvement of safety standards and practices.
- Prepares and submits risk management reports and data analysis monthly to Corporate Risk Management, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards and timely reporting of potential claims incidents.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) required (from an accredited college or university in nursing or related health field preferred); Master’s preferred
- Five years or more related experience and/or training; with at least two years' experience in a healthcare environment
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language and Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or governing body.
- Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for statistical analysis and probability statements.
- Must know how to gather and analyze data.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organization skills.
- Must be articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with employees and the management team.
- Must possess a basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, residential treatment, clinical science/pathology, and psychiatric disorders.
- Must also demonstrate initiative, tact, and good judgement.
- Must have basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (50-75% of the day), as well as stand, walk, kneel and reach.
- Must be able to mentally handle stressful and quick changing situations.
Additional Requirements:
- A strong knowledge of JOINT COMMISSION and CMS standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
