Senior Staff Accountant
We have seen great success in innovating advanced manufacturing techniques in the design and fabrication of temperature sensors, thermocouple systems, interconnect cable-harness assemblies, probes, and sensors. For over 65 years, we have successfully supplied these products to the commercial, business, military jet, rotor, and spacecraft markets.
Based in Branford, CT, we have an opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant works under the supervision of the Cost Accounting Manager and will maintain financial reports, assist the month end close, and prepare/analyze annual budgets/monthly performance. Also, our Senior Accountant will play a key role in improving processes, maintaining/developing metrics and ensuring accurate and timely reporting to support all departments. A successful Senior Accountant at HarcoSemco will be a hands-on, self-driven problem solver with patience and the ability to handle multiple tasks and to be decisive in times of ambiguity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate reports and statistical data as required using defined guidelines.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts to the subledger. Investigate and correct variances.
- Analyze and reconcile the monthly shipments to the Sales Journal report and to the general ledger. Distribute shipments report.
- Analyze and reconcile monthly bookings and backlog reports. Distribute reports.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support management decisions.
- Support the management of USMCA claims and duty charges.
- Generate and upload monthly journal entries.
- Quarterly detailed reports and Annual detailed reports to parent company.
- Assist with annual budget preparation.
- Support internal and external financial audits.
- Develop/maintain/implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risks.
- Understand and follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
- Participate in training as required.
- Assist with monthly financial package.
- Perform related work and other tasks or projects as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance/business with experience in accounting.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing or similar industry.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting standards, and compliance requirements.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and familiar with any Manufacturing ERP system.
- Skilled in verbal communication of work-related information using tact and diplomacy.
- Required to have a high level of confidentiality. Must be extremely trustworthy.
- Must be able to actively engage with employees, supervisors, and other managers on the production floor.

- Work in an office and manufacturing environment; work performed in a climate-controlled office area adjacent to production floor.
- Must be able to sit or stand to perform work.
- Must be able to use a computer, monitor, or other office-related technology to complete work tasks.
- Sitting, standing, reaching, climbing, bending, and moving about the facility.
