The Work You Will Do:
DEP’s Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is currently seeking a Data Base Consultant, which will serve as a Senior Oracle Database Administrator. This is a technical position that provides Oracle database support and solutions for the agency. The incumbent of this position will represent OTIS and must be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful, and courteous at all times in the interactions with customers.

This position is responsible for professional and high-level technical oversight and management for planning, designing, modeling, monitoring, testing, operating, and maintaining database management systems. These database systems are managed in the ORACLE EE Oracle Linux RDBMS environment on-premises and in the DEP Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) tenancy. The primary duties are:
- Establishing and maintaining databases used for development, test, production, data warehousing, and public access. Monitoring and reviewing the department’s database systems to ensure efficiency, integrity, and security of operation and to eliminate problems related to hardware, software, and procedural error.
- Recording, tracking, and investigating problems reported by users and keeping management informed of potential trouble areas, taking corrective actions to resolve and mitigate issues.
- Planning and executing database migration/upgrade events to keep databases at the current long-term release level.
- Monitoring database performance across the development, beta, and production services; acting to resolve issues that affect these services to ensure that the maximum possible uptime availability is achieved; performing OS and database patching for the OCI Oracle Base database systems.
- Identifying and meeting the needs of customers and providing excellent customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and system design
- Knowledge of computer operations, systems, and procedures
- Knowledge of Unix commands and concepts
- Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS administration tools and processes
- Knowledge of database structures and theories
- Knowledge of current database technologies
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques
- Ability to process information logically
- Ability to develop short-range and long-range database storage/growth estimations
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively

- Ability to develop reports and cross-references from the data dictionary
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience managing Oracle Enterprise version 12c or 19c database instances
- 5+ years of experience troubleshooting Oracle database administration and connection problems
- 5+ years of experience monitoring Oracle performance metrics
- 3+ years of experience reviewing physical schema models
- 3+ years of experience with Oracle EM
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience working with Red Hat/Oracle Linux command line syntax and crontab files
- Knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure architecture and DB Systems
- Current Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate and Architect Associate certifications preferred but required during the first year of employment
