TITLE: Staff Accountant (Banking focused)
Department: Accounting
Reports to: Controller
Location/Program: East Granby, CT
Job Purpose
Receives specific guidance and direction from the company Controller relative to overall corporate goals and objectives to be achieved. General accounting work in support of program project centers, including accounting for monthly income statement and balance sheet account activity with related reconciliations. Assist in managing company's cash management system and related credit card systems. The exercise of sound accounting principles and good judgment is a must. The successful Staff Accountant will strive to understand the organization as a whole in order to interact effectively with and provide assistance to all levels of the company.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements to include assigned schedules, journal entries and accruals.
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, identify, report and correct errors.
- Assist in managing company's cash management system, process daily Wire/ACH payments, weekly cash analysis, bank reconciliations.
- Maintain digital copy of daily bank information including but not limited to bank summary reports, ACH transactions and manual deposits.
- Maintain cash file and reconcile balance to the monthly bank statement.
- Assist in managing company's credit card processing merchant accounts and related procedures.
- Meet processing and reporting deadlines consistently and with accuracy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Experience in cash management and bank reconciliations.
- Two to five years of experience in accounting and general ledger work.
Knowledge And Skills
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Fundamental understanding of business processes, cash management, credit card operations, general ledger accounting and financial statements preparation.
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office suite) including intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to use computer skills in spreadsheet software, to expedite accounting procedures.
- Demonstrate effective analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with NetSuite a plus.
Salary: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
