Accountant – Level 3 (Senior)

Salary Range: $110,000 - $115,000 DOE

Position Overview:
The Ryan Foundation is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Level 3 Accountant to play a vital role on the finance team. This position is key to managing the Foundation's financial operations, including maintaining financial records, bookkeeping, preparing reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, assisting in the preparation of the Foundation’s annual income tax returns, including Forms 990-PF and 990-T, and overseeing the Financial Information System, Addepar. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”), be passionate about the mission, and possess meticulous attention to detail.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive financial records
- Record 100 general ledger transactions per month
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor the required 5% distribution requirements for private foundations
- Assist in budgeting and financial forecasting
- At year end, assist with the preparation of financial information for reporting to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and assist the Foundation’s outside CPA firm in the preparation of the Foundation’s annual income tax returns
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
- Facilitate preparation for any annual audits
- Maintain internal accounting controls
Grant Administration:
- Manage all aspects of grant administration; process 60 per year
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of grant funds
- Coordinate with program teams for grant budgeting and utilization
Financial Information System Management (Addepar):
- Maintain certain details in Schwab Custodial system
- Monitor all details of private investments in Addepar and keep them current
- Enhance data entry and reporting processes in Addepar
Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Provide recommendations for financial performance optimization
- Support management in financial planning and decision-making
Collaboration and Communication:
- Interact with the President of the Foundation and the Foundation’s outside CPA firm
- Collaborate with others to align financial and organizational objectives
- Communicate financial information effectively to non-finance staff
- Engage in team meetings and contribute to collaborative projects
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite and MAC (required)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Consummate professional with the ability to work with integrity within a confidential and proprietary environment
- Independent problem solving with expert and efficient follow through
- Brings a solid understanding of the investment space with the ability to apply regulatory requirements of the annual asset base income to tax reporting projects (required)
Experience/Education
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or an emphasis in accounting
- AAT Level III Diploma in Accounting or applicable equivalent experience
- 5-10 years of accounting experience (preferably experience in the non-profit sector)
