As a Financial Analyst on Scout's M&A team, you will be responsible for supporting the origination, evaluation, negotiation, and closing of acquisitions of utility-scale wind, solar, and storage projects to supplement Scout’s ambitious deployment targets. Your ability to evaluate prospective development teams and projects, on both a quantitative and qualitative basis, will be the mark of success in this role.
You will be responsible for project-based financial modeling and the preparation of investment committee materials to assist investment decisions.
In addition to financial analysis, the ideal candidate will have the desire to “know enough to be dangerous” about topics ranging from energy markets, project engineering, construction, development, to key legal issues that impact the investment analysis of a particular project.
While the bulk of your work will focus on project-level deals, you will also analyze development platforms from time to time.
Your analysis will propel you toward success during deal negotiation and close:
- Support the development and negotiation of term sheets as you hone your understanding of the commercial points that drive acquisition agreements.
- Integrate the feedback of Scout team members into your project approach to achieve superior results.
- Implement long-term company strategy and initiatives related to wind and solar development.
- Mine ISO/RTO queues for potential targets.
- Research other changes in the markets to identify areas with high potential opportunities.
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and board papers as directed.
Your understanding of market and industry fundamentals will enable you to support our project identification and negotiation efforts:
You will join the M&A team, reporting to the Senior Manager of M&A. You will collaborate extensively with team members across the company as Scout continues to grow through both organic and strategic acquisition opportunities to bring high quality wind and solar projects into our pipeline for development.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or quantitative field
- 1-2 years of experience in project finance, energy development, or private equity with a thorough understanding of financial models and investment analysis
- Experience with debt structures, with tax equity partnership experience a plus
- Experience with sell-side due diligence processes for renewable energy or project finance transactions
- Independent learner who can quickly apply lessons learned in one area to all other work areas
- Self-motivator with exceptional leadership and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and deliver top-quality work product in multiple areas without direct supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties
- Strength in communicating verbally, in writing, and through presentation development
- Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written, verbal, and presentation format, to project teams and to senior management
- Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (including VBA), Word, and PowerPoint
- Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship
- Willing and available to travel as needed, up to 10%

Target base salary: $80,000 - 100,000 (Negotiable for the right candidate.)
