Senior Project Accountant
Location: Denver metro, CO
Summary/Objective
Reporting directly to the Construction Accounting Manager, we are hiring a talented Project Accountant professional to join our team. This position will be responsible for the financial activities for our construction division, complete month-end close entries and related reconciliations, and work closely with various stakeholders throughout the organization, requiring a successful candidate to possess excellent technical and communication skills. This position will work closely with project managers to ensure financial compliance and maximize cost efficiency.
Essential Functions

- Manage all financial aspects of construction projects, including projections, budget preparation, assist with project set-up in ERP, cost tracking and reporting.
- Ensure that all project related expenses are captured and aligned with projections and contract terms.
- Ad-hoc project accounting for shared services with our A&E divisions.
- Ensure that the month-end close journal entries are completed accurately within established deadlines.
- Balance sheet reconciliation preparation responsibilities with a full understanding of the underlying account activity.
- Manage pay applications and review change orders.
- Analyze project schedules in relation to change orders to ensure accurate timelines.
- Take initiative to investigate/resolve reconciling items, aged transactions, or discrepancies and contact appropriate individuals to gather information to propose and implement solutions.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and submit appropriate supporting documentation with all entries.
- Prepare audit schedules, provide audit support, and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
- Perform cost coding, reconcile project related accounts, and resolve any financial discrepancies.
- Communicate with the appropriate personnel to record missing items and correct mistakes.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with internal and external requirements ensuring adherence to SOX controls.
- Provide support to the overall Accounting Department assisting with special projects and analysis as needed or requested.
- Maintain adequate records for historical look up and reference, both paper and electronic.
- Other tasks and ad hoc requests as assigned.
Competencies
- 5+ years of accounting experience in public accounting, industry accounting or both with specific experience with a General Contractor or large multi-stage, multi-deliverable revenue generating projects.
- Strong understanding of job costing, project forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Experience using multiple accounting and software applications, as well as an understanding of how other systems used interface with the GL/Accounting system.
- Check and verify source documents such as invoices, item receipts, POs, subcontracts, etc.
- Ability to correspond with vendors/subcontractors regarding discrepancies and various matters.
- Ability to maintain supporting documentation and organization of historical support.
- Ability to research variances/discrepancies and take corrective action.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Proven analytical ability and capability to work independently to meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize workload and execute deliverables.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business degree
- 5+ years of accounting related experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Multi-deliverable revenue generating projects or Construction experience required.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Experience working with Acumatica, our cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform preferred, general knowledge of ERP systems required.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days in the Centennial, Colorado office per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
