Job Summary:
This position is responsible for underwriting SME Commercial Package and Personal Package products in Singapore, including SME Marine Cargo business (originating from Local Brokers and Agents). The position will require the employee to utilize the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, implementing proper underwriting discipline/guidelines, and marketing and servicing existing and potential clients. The position will also require the administration and monitoring of underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating rules and models. In addition, the employee will be required to take case referrals from distribution channel underwriters, and to provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to them on a periodic basis.
Job Duties and Competencies:
- Underwriting functions including underwriting submission review, pricing analysis, setting of terms and conditions, and quote/bind/invoice authorisations.
- Execute approved SME Marine Cargo business and provide ad-hoc reports and portfolio analysis as and when required.
- Work closely with the SME team to cross-sell and underwrite other commercial lines products on a total account basis.
- Exercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline to meet profitability goals, comply with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures.
- Maintain underwriting files in an orderly manner and in accordance with underwriting guidelines, including maintenance of all reporting systems for submissions and bound accounts, rate change modeling, bound account listing, submission log and reports as may be developed.
- Conduct pre-quote and mid-term underwriting audits as needed.
- Expand existing portfolio business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clients.
- Interact with existing and prospective clients and intermediaries in support of the business.
- Liaise with internal auditors, Claims, Actuarial, Accounting, IT and Legal departments as appropriate.
- Work with line of business head to establish and track key KPIs to track portfolio experience by product and segment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-4 years of underwriting experience.
- Some Marine Cargo experience will be an advantage.
- Previous experience with underwriting Commercial Package Products is an advantage.
- Strong fundamentals in underwriting principles, pricing, and knowledge of policy wordings.
- Strong connections in the local Singapore market with intermediaries, with an interest in portfolio or team management.
- Self-starter, who can work independently while also being able to work in conjunction with other functional departments.
