We are currently recruiting for a Fiscal Analyst with experience in accounts payable to help lead the work for DOL's growing Financial Office!

As the Accounts Payable Lead, you will lead a team of three (3) Fiscal Analysts as they provide timely and accurate reconciliation and completion of payments and transfers. Your team will rely on you to bring consistency and knowledge as you assign workloads and handle routine or complex situations. With your attention to detail, you will interpret Chart of Accounts, department directives, and policies while auditing payments and journal vouchers for compliance. In collaboration with budget staff, you will record adjusting entries to include posting of indirect costs, cost allocations, and other transfers. As a result of your inclusive leadership and excellent customer service, you will directly support our agency's purpose, helping every Washington resident live, work, drive, and thrive.
Some of what you will do:
- Provide training, mentoring, and coaching to new and existing staff.
- Monitor performance and create performance statistics for tracking.
- Identify errors and work directly with staff to investigate and correct discrepancies.
- Review and release batches for staff.
- Apply online approvals in Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) for payments.
- Assist in completing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR).
What you will bring to the role:
- Seven (7) years of experience in accounting, auditing, or a relevant financial field.
OR
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) certification
- Two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing, or a relevant financial field.
Experience must include:
- 18 quarters or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing, finance, or budgeting.
- Three (3) years:
- Accurately using the ten-key numerical keypad on a computer or adding machine to enter numerical data by touch.
- Entering accurate accounting-related information into an electronic accounting system.
- Analyzing and reconciling general or subsidiary ledger for validity and accuracy.
- Providing customer service by listening attentively, identifying needs or issues, providing options, and exercising knowledge of state laws and regulations to assist others.
- Conveying ideas and information in writing, using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the reader.
- Two (2) years:
- Experience using spreadsheet software, such as Excel to find and replace data, create, modify, print, and format spreadsheets.
- Experience using computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and personal information web manager, such as Microsoft Outlook.
Up to five (5) years of relevant education that includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing, or budgeting may substitute year for year for experience.
(Associates degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s degree = 4 years; Master’s degree = 5 years)
Note: Possession of both a relevant Master’s degree AND two (2) of the listed certifications (CPA, CMA, and/or CGFM) will substitute for experience.
What may help set you apart:
- Experience inputting data accurately and reviewing transactions in Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) and creating Enterprise reporting reports.
- Knowledge of Office of Financial Management (OFM) Federal, and State regulations and guidelines.
- Experience successfully directing the work of others through mentoring, coaching, and team building.
- Experience in accounting theory, principles and practices, internal control procedures, financial management software applications, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience using DOL specific systems such as DRIVES, POLARIS, GenTax, and RevVal.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
