Job Summary
Responsible for developing models, optimizing models, and performing quantitative studies. These activities surround the forecasting of solid fuel fleet market positions, fueling requirements, emissions costs, and incremental system costs of energy for operations, trading, and risk management purposes.
Key Accountabilities
- Optimize the operation of the PUP (production utilization model) and production costing model.
- Optimize the operation and increase the functionality of the CUICC model that is used to develop daily dispatch curves for the solid-fueled fleet for use by the real-time desk.
- Analyze large amounts of actual operating data for benchmarking and revising model assumptions.
- Automate processes through programming.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the solid-fueled fleet and the variables that impact system dispatch.
- Actively participate in cross-functional teams, providing analytical expertise, offering original perspectives, and challenging conventional views to better align efforts.
- Communicate complex and intricate statistical concepts at a level appropriate to the audience.
- Show measurable initiative in the design, implementation, and support of analytical database development, queries, and reports.
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Math, Computer Science, or related field and an advanced degree (MA or Ph.D.) in mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics or finance.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Access, VBA, SAS or related programming language preferred.
- 3+ years experience in programming, data analysis, and complex mathematical and statistical modeling.
- Experience in SQL or other database software is preferred.
- Ability to understand end-to-end reporting operations and recognize dependencies and variables throughout the process.
- Ability to synthesize information into meaningful conclusions and tactical recommendations.
