Recruitment Range: $80,000 - $110,000
This position has been designated as Exempt in accordance with North Carolina General Statute § 126-5 (c12).
In furtherance of the Department of State Treasurer's existing ethics and transparency programs, this position is subject to the ethics and conflict of interest requirements of the Department of State Treasurer Supplemental Ethics Policy (Tier 2 Policy).
About us:
The Investment Management Division is the investment arm of the Department of State Treasurer, and actively invests and manages the State's pension funds and other assets entrusted to the Department. Standing teams are Investment Grade Fixed Income, Public Equity, Private Equity, Opportunistic Fixed Income and Inflation Sensitive, Real Estate, Multi-Strategy, Risk and Asset Allocation, and Investment Operations.
The Investment Analyst assists the team with the day-to-day management of the Public Equity internally managed and externally managed portfolios (US Equity and Non-US Equity). The position provides trade support on internally managed portfolios and performs ongoing fundamental and quantitative research and analysis.
Job Duties
- Supports trade reconciliations, rebalances, confirmations, settlements, and corporate actions.
- Monitors portfolio risk, and assists with asset allocation, portfolio modeling, reporting, and analytics.
- Participates in manager meetings, and due diligence visits and maintains physical and electronic files.
- Communicates with broker-dealers, data providers, custodians, and middle/back-office providers as well as internal operations, accounting, and audit teams.
- Assists with reporting for presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Position Requires ~ 15% travel
Minimum Requirements
- Working knowledge of the investment industry, principles of modern portfolio theory and statistical methods utilized to track and monitor risk and performance.
- Demonstrated ability to track and monitor the lifecycle of a trade and effectively escalate trade discrepancies and communicate trade-related information to internal and external entities.
- Proficiency in detailed computation utilizing advanced analytical software tools for financial modeling.
- Experience analyzing factors associated with risk and return.
- Demonstrated ability to compile, monitor, examine, and/or calculate performance, perform attribution analysis, and accurately gauge investment merit.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor investment portfolios for compliance with guidelines and policies.
- Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other platforms utilized for statistical analysis.
Management Preferences
- MBA and/or CFA Certification.
- Significant experience in trade support within a public or corporate pension plan, foundation, or endowment.
- Working knowledge of investment and operational due diligence support, familiarity with manager search and selection, and monitoring a portfolio of external investment managers within a public or corporate pension plan, foundation, and/or endowment.
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in accounting, business, economics, finance, investment, statistics, or related discipline with significant credit hours in accounting, finance or financial modeling coursework and at least 1 year of experience; or Equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
